Buckle-up for Safety

Peaches and Ochoco try out their new safety belts.

Since I have a small truck, riding in the back is not an option until I decide to re-install my canopy and bolt travel kennels to the bed of the truck.  So until they are too big, they will ride in front, safely buckled in!

Kitty and Ochoco Play!

This is from the second or third day home and Kitty and Ochoco are already having fun together! Kitty has never really been afraid of dogs, so it makes it easier for a new puppy to not chase as she just sits there and waits for puppy to calm down. There is an occasional bat of the paw, but usually without claws exposed.

Our trip to Minnesota

Thistledown's Yaina Ochoco, born August 16, 2008

Announcing the arrival of Thistledown's Yaina Ochoco, my new puppy! Potey and I flew to Minnesota this weekend to pick her up. She's a smart tike of a puppy! And as cute as can be. She was named Yaina because it is the "Y" litter from the breeder so you have to pick a "Y" name, Yaina means mountain. Ochoco will be her call name that gets used everyday and that is following my tradition of naming my dogs after mountains. After all she is a Bernese Mountain Dog!

Playing in the fall leaves her last day in Minnesota

We had quite a journey home after getting to spend two full days hanging out with her and the other seven puppies. After a three hour drive from a small town in Minnesota we got stuck at the airport with a canceled flight! The airlines ended up putting us up for the night and at 5:30 am the next day we were headed backwards toward Chicago and then on to Portland. We arrived home mid-day with a very tired puppy.

Napping at the airport while waiting for out second flight.

She was amazing on the trip, only whining for a total of about 2 minutes. She did do a little bit of nervous panting off and on, but was otherwise quite and calm and just hung out in my arms or in her puppy travel bag. We brought her on board the planes with us and she was quite a hit with passengers and flight attendants alike. (All but one grumpy gate agent!)

Spying on Titty Kitty!

Her first few hours at home have been spent romping in the backyard stretching out those tired travel legs. Too much staying still for a puppy! She got introduced to Titty Kitty with a gentle no-claw bared whack and that was the beginning of what will be a good relationship. Kitty showed her stuff and now they are sniffing each other nose to nose. That's all it took!

Barking at the new puppy in her new home. It looks just like her...

She's about to go pounce on another puppy

The day we met the Thistledown puppies

Giving Yoanna some cuddles, after much deliberation I took the recommendation of the breeder and chose Yoanna as the pup to come home with me.  I had the honor of choosing between 3 girls from a litter of 8.  (1 Boy, 7 girls)

Potey was as excited as I was!

Baby O Photos

These are from before I met Ochoco, and her name at that time was Yoanna.  She was part of the "Y" litter from Thistledown.

All the puppies were given names that started with "Y" as opposed to giving them a color or a number to tell them apart.  Most of the new puppy owners changed their pups' name when they took them home.

Her new registered name is Thistledown's Yaina Ochoco, her call name is Ochoco, and sometimes just O.  Yaina is her "Y" name and it means mountain, and Ochoco is a beautiful range of mountains in Oregon, and it means willow.
